It is an increasingly familiar pattern that I see here in India too, that has otherwise a free press: Legal and illegal harassment of those seeking to highlight issues ignored by the mainstream media or things that the government would rather brush under the carpet. There's a film maker here who spent 90 days in jail and is finally out on bail last month, and they have still not told him what he is being charged with. The only reason he managed to get out was because fellow film makers, activists, writers and civil society groups created enough noise about this.
